How I Write English Articles Being Non-Native Speaker: Tips for International Bloggers
Hello, guys! My name is Milya Kotery, I am a freelance expert and content marketer. I talk about selling your digital products and increasing your freelance income. Follow if you want to know more about leveling up your freelance business!
I see that my post about learning English in a non-English-speaking country is very popular, so I decided to write another one with my tips to write posts in English for those who also don’t speak English as a native yet.
As I said in that article, I consistently improve my English skills in different fields: writing, reading, and listening; though I haven’t started practicing my conversational skills, I’ve just had no time and energy for that. Too much work and worries were there in the last past months.
So I focused on writing and reading as I started my new project.
I continue to improve my English. How do I do that?
I noticed that my English writing had improved hugely in the last two months. In February, writing was challenging, and I often looked up the dictionary and Google Translate to know what word to choose, so it was slow and tough. The more I wrote, the easier the process became. I learned how to formulate phrases and sentences and often choose words I already knew.
What helps me?
- ProWriting Aid. It is one of the best tools for checking your spelling and grammar, but the best advantage is that it advises you on how to improve your text, which words are unnecessary, and what synonyms are the best choice in your exact phrase. Totally recommend!
- Reading non-fiction. I read psychology and marketing books purchased on Amazon and articles about marketing, mostly on Medium. So I can see how people usually use words and phrases in texts similar to those I wrote. My last purchase on Amazon was “$100M Offers: How To Make Offers So Good People Feel Stupid Saying No”.
- Italki. I chose several tutors to start my IELTS preparation, and I also plan to improve my spoken English in the summer. I suppose I will begin classes in July.
- English clubs. I found several English-speaking clubs and plan to join them in June.
- AI Assistance. I added it in May 2023 because things changed drastically during the last year :) So now you don’t need to write all the texts by yourself. Still, you need to know how to create proper prompts and check the style and even grammar after AI. I usually use ChatGPT, but there are plenty of them: Jasper, Copy AI, etc. Drop your favorite in the comments!
